Enthusiastic pupils held a teddy bear’s picnic and raised £250 to help deaf children.

Pupils at St Mary’s Primary School in Castlefields, Runcorn, wanted to suport the National Deaf Children’s Society as one of their classmates, Hannah Harrison, aged seven, has hearing problems.

Her mum, Helen and another mum, Carol Hughes organised the event.

The charity brought their listening bus to school for the day.

Reception teacher, Simon Owen, said: “Each class was given a half hour session where they learned about the way in which people with hearing problems deal with situations.

“They were shown how a deaf person would be woken up by a vibrating alarm clock under their pillow.

“The children really enjoyed the teddy bear’s picnic as they got to make delicious cakes and biscuits, and also designed tablecloths and other decorations.”

Parents and teachers bought the cakes.
