Education experts are being asked to support new proposals for teaching deaf pupils in Bradford.
Two schemes to teach more youngsters in mainstream schools were drawn up last year by Education Bradford as part of an overall review of special educational needs in the district.
A third model, which was put forward by Thorn Park School for the Deaf in Heaton, included setting up two Deaf Centres for Excellence, one primary and one secondary.
Bradford Council's Young People and Education Improvement Committee will be asked to support the latest model, which is based on the Thorn Park plan, at its meeting on September 21.
The specialist primary centre would be based at the Swain House school site and cater for 50 pupils. It would have Designated Specialist Provision (DSP) for up to 15 pupils, which would be developed by January 2006.
A secondary centre is also proposed for Hanson School, which would also have DSP for about 15 pupils. A suitable primary school in the north of the district, covering Keighley, Ilkley and Bingley, would also be identified.
Girlington Primary School would keep its DSP, which will reduce to 20 pupils over time, and the school would also link formally with St Edmund's Nursery School (Girlington Children's Centre) to boost the deaf provision in the area.
The latest idea is the result of comprehensive consultation with parents, staff and other interested parties.
Committee chairman Coun Philip Thornton said: "I am pleased that further proposals have come about as a result of a further round of discussions with interested parties.
"The committee will consider this and any other submissions before making any final recommendations."
