Sorenson's $5 million gift to Gallaudet becomes an Audism bomb?

About Sorenson Language & Communicaton Center: Last night, Tawny Holmes talked about her frustrations as the Vice-President of SBG — she said, “For the whole year, I could not get Jane Fernandes to set up the appointment to discuss about anything related to Gallaudet … I could not get her to talk with me for a year! I did everything possible to reach her but she simply ignored me throughout the year!”

Holmes went on to describe one appalling situation where Jane plainly lied about the plans for SLCC. Fernandes finally got in touch with her to discuss about the Sorenson’s $5 million gift. Fernandes told her that it is better for the SBG to share their concerns about Sorenson to her and she’ll share this with Sorenson herself. Then later, Fernandes claimed that the SBG approved of Fernandes’ decision that the building is to be named after John Lee Sorenson.

The truth is that the SBG was never notified of that nor approved of such things. In fact, the SBG vehemently opposed to that! They argued that many academic buildings are named after hearing peers but dormitories? Deaf people. This is Audism at its best. Laurent Clerc is named after a dorm. John Carlin is named after a dorm. Ballard, Cogswell, Krug … you get the picture.

Fernandes basically used the SBG to polish herself up.

This reminded me of something …
 
Fernandes is going down. I did not know about this, but then again, I am not poltically active at Gallaudet. A mere indicent like this should have prevented Fernandes from ever being a presidental canditate.
After reading stuff like this, Fernandes deserves all the dislike the protesting students are giving her.
 
If someone is gonna give $5 million then Gallaudet certainly can use the money to manage and set up better programs but after reading this. I am happy I went with Ron Stern. I thought maybe Jane Fernandes could be a good choice as she improved Deaf school education across the 50 states of the USA but now I gotta question what impact did she really have on Deaf education? We do not need another repeat of the Milan, Italy conference. Sorenson has been a real good friend to the Deaf community.

Wow, you must be very loyal to Sorenson becasue of using your VP-100...

Yes, I like my VP-100. Thank you to Fei Ku :bowdown: for turning me to the Sorenson VP-100 and I know Gallaudet University recently built a new classroom building and a hotel on campus to keep Deaf people and their families and guests safe as well as another way to make some money that will go towards the quality of education. I really thought she may be another step in the right direction and now I am really glad I orginially went with Ron Stern because of his hands on experience at the N.M. School f/t Deaf with the day to day operation and the handling of the finanical situation etc. We are gonna have to wait and see what happens next.

I fail to see how there is ANY connection between a corporation donating 5 million to Gally and audism. Sounds more like deafcentricism to me
 
Well get a deaf person to donate 5 million dollars to Gallaudet then maybe Gallaudet will name a building after them.... Please - you guys SHOULD be THANKFUL for Sorenson - without them or CSD or HOVRS - We wouldnt have the Video Capablity we have now. Sorenson donated 5 million to Gallaudet and I see NOTHING wrong with it. And you know most universities when someone makes a sizable donation they usually get a building named after them. So if you guys want more buildings named after deafies then GO DONATE 5 million dollars.
