Popularity of Sorenson Video Relay Service Spurs Creation of Two New Video Interpreting Centers

Indianapolis, Indiana and Columbus, Ohio are Latest Sites for Interpreting Centers that Connect Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing with the Hearing World through Sorenson Video Relay Service

INDIANAPOLIS; COLUMBUS, Ohio; and SALT LAKE CITY (March 15, 2005) – Sorenson Media(r) today announced the opening of new Sorenson Video Relay Service(r) (VRS) Interpreting Centers in both Indianapolis, Indiana and Columbus, Ohio. By adding video relay interpreting centers, Sorenson Media intends to stay ahead of increasing call demand.

"Placing a video relay service call using American Sign Language (ASL) has never been easier for deaf or hard-of-hearing people," said James Lee Sorenson, CEO at Sorenson Media. "Using a Sorenson VP-100(tm) videophone appliance, a television and broadband Internet connection; deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals can easily call hearing friends, family, and business associates. Because we are experiencing a rapid rise in the number of users, we need to increase the number of certified ASL interpreters to interpret calls."

By combining its high-quality videophone and video compression technology with a national network of certified ASL interpreters, Sorenson Media provides the deaf and hard-of-hearing community with a video relay service that allows them fluid communication in ASL, their native language. Additionally, Sorenson Media offers a wide array of technology solutions for video relay service users, including its Sorenson VP-100 videophone appliance, Sorenson EnVision(r) SL video relay software, and the videophone booth.

"We chose Indianapolis and Columbus for interpreting centers because both
have large populations of certified and qualified interpreters available to work with Sorenson Media and meet the needs of the community," said Chris Wakeland, vice president of interpreting at Sorenson Media. "The new centers will help avoid wait-times for our users and will bring employment opportunities to Indianapolis and Columbus."
