My brother who is hearing, has this girlfriend who is also hearing. She was telling me that some scuba agencies are starting to use ASL to communicate underwater and they are teaching it to their students as a part of their program. I think this is really cool and am glade that they are finally starting to see how useful and multifunctional ASL is but i was wondering what other people think about this?

Yes! It's an ideal way as a communication tool for the underwater purposes. I heard a few of them starting to learn ASL which is cool.

In the past we deaf people watched some scuba movies on TV and wondered as why those professional scuba divers didn't use ASL in order to have the communication advantages which they can't use voice to communicate underwater. In fact it took years till someone (hearing) popped this idea to start using ASL for the purpose... why did it take them so long? lol

Sure, it's ideal only for those who frequents scuba diving with few persons or groups at least only. Fish wouldn't understand you signing, do they?! Nope ha

So we are glad for your bother and his girlfriend staring to learn ASL for their scuba diving adventures. Cool

i had been scuba with my friends, we do use our ASL to communicate underwater. It is really A LOT easier than use scuba's language. Its fun.
