Ghana Broadcasting Corporation :: Society charged to remove communication barrier with the deaf and dumb ::: GBC | GTV | Ghana Radio | Ghana Television

The Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of Social Welfare, R.K. Santah has appealed to government, corporate institutions and individuals to package information on the environment, family planning, HIV/AIDS, teenage pregnancy and others social issues to meet the needs of the hearing impaired.

He identified the communication barrier as one of the problems confronting the deaf in the country and this has culminated in their inability to communicate effectively in hospitals, courts, police stations and other public places.
Mr. Santah noted that such barriers limit the access of the hearing impaired to education, employment, information, community and public services.

Mr. Santah said the deaf equally have a right of access to information. He was speaking at a public forum on Ghanaian sign language organized by the Brong Ahafo Regional Association of the Deaf of the Institute of Adult Education in Sunyani under the theme, “Breaking the Communication Barrier”
.
In a message the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Ignatius Baffour Awuah pledged the commitment of government to breaking the communication barrier since it believes the wealth of any nation depends on the quality of its human and not the natural resources.
