Sheriff's Department Seeks Deaf Mute - News Story - KERO Bakersfield
The Kern County Sheriff's Department is investigating the alleged kidnapping of three children in Bakersfield by a family friend.
The children, Vanessa Iniguez, 10, Arthur Iniguez, 8, and Sylvia Iniguez, 7, were last seen Friday at about 10 a.m. with family friend Monica Salazar walking westbound on Southgate Drive toward a McDonald's.
Salazar is a deaf mute who is able to communicate through sign language and text messaging, officials said.
According to the Kern County Sheriff's Department, Salazar text messaged family members that the children were safe, but she refused to retun them even though she knows the sheriff's department is looking for her.
The sheriff's department described Salazar in a press release Saturday night as an Hispanic woman about 5 feet 5 inches tall, with long black hair, brown eyes and tattoos that read "Joyce" on her calf and "Jude" located on her upper arm.
Salazar does not own a vehicle. Her last address is 1931 South J St., Apt. A, but she has not been living there for over a month, officials said. There is no updated address information for Salazar.
The children were also described as Hispanic.
Vanessa Iniguez is about 5 feet tall with long black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing shorts and a T-shirt.
Arthur Iniguez is about 4 feet 6 inches tall with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing shorts, a black T-shirt and skateboarding-style shoes.
Sylvia Iniguez is 4 feet tall with shoulder-length black hair and hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing shorts, shirt, and sandals.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Kern County Sheriff's Department at 661-868-4085.
