Senator honored by Ga. Association of the Deaf - News - WSAV.com - Savannah / Hilton Head

State Sen. Regina Thomas (D-Savannah) was recently awarded the Outstanding Woman of the Year award from the Georgia Association of the Deaf (GAD), during the Association’s 49th biennial conference in Savannah.

Each year, GAD nominates candidates for the award who work to improve the lives of the deaf community in Georgia, and Sen. Thomas’ efforts in the legislature on behalf of the state’s hearing-impaired citizens made her this year’s recipient.

During the 2007 Session, Sen. Thomas authored Senate Bill 49, which requires the Division of Rehabilitation Services to oversee the delivery of deaf-blind services provided by an organization knowledgeable on deaf-blind issues. She also assisted the GAD in incorporating their vision of the Deaf Child’s Bill of Rights Act (SB 168) into the final version of the legislation.

Sen. Regina Thomas represents the 2nd Senate District which includes a portion of Chatham County. She may be reached by e-mail at regina.thomas@senate.ga.gov
