A self-defense class for deaf women has been rescheduled for Jan. 19.

Victims Services of Central Washington Comprehensive Mental Health had scheduled a class to outline and demonstrate physical defense strategies for deaf women Saturday.

However, organizers rescheduled it because of low attendance. They want about 10 women to make the class dynamic, said Mary-Abigail Burnett of Mental Health.

The class will be noon to 5 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Yakima Police Athletic League headquarters, 602 N. Fourth St. Brenda George of the Yakima Police Department will instruct.

Women are encouraged to bring along a female family member or friend to help translate, though some translation will be provided, Burnett said.

To sign up or for more information, call Burnett at 576-4306 or e-mail her at mburnett@cwcmh.org.
