USADSF SEEKING REPORTERS FOR DEAFLYMPICS
Reporters, Photographers, and Videographers will cover Team USA in Action

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The USA Deaf Sports Federation is seeking deaf and hard of hearing reporters, photographers, and videographers to cover the 2013 Summer Deaflympics from July 26-August 4, 2013, in Sofia, Bulgaria, as part of USADSF’s media team. Selected media team members will travel to Bulgaria to report on the Games for USADSF’s newsletter and online news media outlets, with the goal of generating coverage that draws national and international readership and generates fan enthusiasm for U.S. athletes’ accomplishments.

The ideal sports writing applicant will have some journalism experience, strong reporting and writing skills, familiarity with cameras, some knowledge of sports, and the ability to work well under deadline. Photography applicants should have experience with action photography and be versed in the use of camera equipment. Videography applicants should have experience with creating, producing, filming, and editing video. Those with applicable skills but little experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Media team members will be expected to participate in online sports journalism training sessions hosted by the Print Media Editor in June and July. As part of the training, reporters will write content for USADSF’s website and any outbound communications as needed. During the Games, reporters will write one to three stories per day and assist with social media and outreach efforts. Photographers and videographers will undergo similar training.

Media team members work on a volunteer or intern basis, without pay. Funding for travel and other necessary expenses will be determined at a later date. The USADSF will work with student reporters and their home universities to meet requirements for internship credit and arrange accommodations for missed classes.

USADSF does not discriminate on the basis of signing ability and is actively seeking a diversity of communication preferences. Please e-mail a cover letter, resume with two references and three writing/photography/videography samples by 2 p.m. EST, April 12, 2013, to
media@usdeafsports.org.
