South Carolina - The South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind improved in six areas from a review done back in 2003.
The audit found the school had implemented several recommendations including better documentation of students' education goals and helping students transition to jobs.
But the review also noted 38 percent of the school's staff were not current in their certification in at least one area of training.
Training such as CPR and First Aid or positive behavior systems.
The school says it doesn't have the money, an estimated $480,000, to complete the training.
"There is no doubt that ... students and staff will reap great benefits from a comprehensive staff training program," said Sheila Breitweiser, president of the School for the Deaf and Blind.
But, she said, the school has requested the funding in each of its budget proposals for the past five years and has included it again in the coming year's request. The money will pay staffers while they receive the training and pay for materials and instructors.
