www.whec.com - Rochester School for the Deaf lockout over

Early this afternoon, there were reports of shots fired near a local school. It happened on Saint Paul Street near the School for the Deaf around 12:30.

The school was immediately put into lockout. That means no one could leave or enter the building. School security officers and neighbors heard the shots.

We spoke with some neighbors and they tell us the drug dealing and violence is out of control.

Rendie Ellison said, “My daughter came out first, she was like mommy, mommy, it’s gunshots.” Mariah Coley also heard the shots. She said, “Kids walk up and down this street every day. Morning noon and night and I mean there's shooting going around and where the police at when you need them.”

Police say they searched the area but didn't find any suspects.
