The Herald : Features: LETTERS

EIGHTEEN-week waiting-time targets are great news for those waiting for hospital treatment - but what about the hundreds of thousands of deaf and hard-of-hearing people across Scotland waiting up to two years for hearing-aid services (Target for hospital waiting times to be cut to 18 weeks, June 29)?

The Health Minister has committed to bring down waiting times to see a hospital doctor - but the NHS is about more than doctors.

Until the 18-week target is extended to hearing aids, grandparents will be isolated from their families, employees will suffer stress and exclusion at work, and deaf and hard-of-hearing people across Scotland will face unnecessary frustration and loneliness caused by lack of communication and understanding.
