Recording Studio Makes Dvd To Help Deaf Workers (from This Is Cheshire)

A CREWE recording studio is supporting a charity helping people with hearing problems.

Orchard Studios has teamed up with the Deafness Support Network to produce a British Sign Language DVD for its deaf employees.

The charity provides support and advice to tens of thousands of deaf residents across Cheshire, Halton and Warrington - and will respond to some 35,000 requests this year alone.

Of the charity's 80 staff, 40 per cent are deaf - meaning that for many British Sign Language is their first language.

The charity's chief executive Mark Ward said: "The DVD will help give our deaf staff full access to the written policies and procedures which may otherwise be difficult for them to understand.

"Orchard Studios have been incredibly supportive and professional throughout the process, and we have been delighted with the results."

Orchard's business development manager Kate Newbould said: "We have a state-of-the-art set up here and it's nice to know that in some way we can use that to make people's working lives easier."
