Punjab’s first deaf and dumb SSA school opens

PUNJAB Education Department has opened the first residential school of the state for deaf and dumb children at Khairabad village near Ropar under Sarav Shikhiya Abhiyan (SSA). Giving this information, Ropar Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman of District Education Development Committee Alok Shekhar said that school had capacity of 50 children and 33 children had already got admission in the school.

The DC reviewed the progress of the works undertaken under SSA in the district. He also said that Rs 25.62 crore had been spent on providing the basic infrastructure and other facilities in the schools of the district under SSA since 2002-03.

He said this year Central Government had sanctioned Rs 10.60 crore under SSA for Ropar district including Kharar and Mohali sub-divisions which were earlier part of Ropar district.

While addressing the meeting District Education Officer (Elementary) Roshan Lal Sood said that with the recruitment of teachers in the 346 schools of Ropar district, the SSA would be effectively implemented in the district.

Someone's going to wind up complaining for using the word 'dumb'. x.x Political Correctness sticks out like a sore thumb these days. :ugh2:
