Praia hosts workshop on school integration for deaf children
A training and capacity building workshop on the education of deaf children in Cape Verde has opened in the capital, Praia, with officials from several ministries and NGOs participating.
The 10-day meeting, which started Monday, is aimed at seeking ways and means of ensuring better integration of deaf children into the Cape Verdean education system.
On the sidelines of the workshop, the Support Association for the Development and Integration of Disabled Children (AADICD) in Cape Verde and the Portuguese Association of the Deaf (AOS) are holding a training session in sign language and education for the deaf.
Speaking at the workshop, AADICD vice-president Maria Alice Figueiredo Aguiar stressed the need for representatives of the education ministry to take care of deaf children, adding that they needed attention and specialised schools.
