The Chairman of the Winneba branch of the Deaf and Dumb Association, Mr Victor Essien has appealed to Political Parties to engage the services of sign interpreters to translate their messages at their rallies to their members. He said this would enable the deaf and dumb to understand their messages and make informed choices

According to him, the deaf and dumb cast their votes with the influence of relatives and appearances of picture on the ballot papers because they did not hear nor understand the messages of the parties and their flag bearers. Mr Essien made the appeal at an emergency meeting of the Association at Winneba, where he spoke through a lecturer of the Special Education of the University of Education, Winneba. He urged parents of people with disabilities to give them the necessary education to make them contribute towards the development of the nation. Mr Essien appealed for assistance to construct a social centre for the people with disabilities in the area.
