Philly theater to offer on-screen captioning for the deaf (phillyBurbs.com) | Movies
Movies in Philadelphia are about to become more accessible for the deaf and hearing impaired.
One of the nation's first open-captioned movie theaters is set to open Friday morning at the Independence Seaport Museum.
Executive director Carol Finkle of Creative Access says cutting edge technology will permit captioning right on the movie screen.
The first film to be shown at the so-called Seaport Cinema will be "Children of a Lesser God," a romance about deaf people.
Finkle says that will open a month of events involving all kinds of deaf artists. The events are designed to engage deaf and hearing people alike.
