PAIN AT THE PUMPS = PAIN AT THE POLLS Campaign. The Voters Voices is heard Loud n clear!

YOURE GONNA SEAL OUR BORDERS!!!!
GIVE BACK OUR RIGHTS!!!!
CUT THE GAS PRICES !!!!

OR YOU CAN FIND YOURSELVES
RIGHT ON THE UNEMPLOYMENT LINE LOOKING FOR ANOTHER JOB!!!

Get real. It doesn't matter who is elected. All of us in the US will be paying higher prices for a long time to come. In case you haven't heard, it is called supply and demand and right now demand wins hands down.

In order to get a handle on gas prices, we need to use less of it...pure and simple. Now, the devil is in the details and it is a question how we do that.

Its Very Simple to get ther prices down.

1.TAX THE HELL OUTTA SUV OWNERS
Any vehcile holds more than a 25 gallon tank it gets taxed more! Any vehcile holds less than a 25 gallon tank it get taxed less

2.START DRILLING MORE OIL
Throw out these liberal judges who favors the environmentalist groups and Start Drilling in our own land.

3.BUILD NEW REFINERIES
Again Throw out these liberal judges who favors the environmentalist groups and Start Building more refineries.

That would add up $1.75 again

Now, that is one good idea and I have mentioned that before. It would put the onus on the Joe Q. Public to decide whether it was worth the extra money to drive one.

You still don't get it about oil do you? What is so difficult to understand? There is a finite amount of oil in the world and demand gets to the point where we can't get enough out of the earth to satisfy it. When we get to the point where the amount starts decreasing, things get very interesting (and painful). We are almost there and believe me...everybody will know it when it happens.

Opening up more places to drill for it doesn't solve the problem! We need to branch away from oil and into alternatives...it is as simple as that.

Bad idea of yours, Buckdodgers.

Drilling more oil will cause environmental problems.

Too much demand for oil isn't gonna help lower gas prices because China and India has a great dependence on oil...not only US.

Americans have a preference on power and room than compact cars in general...but that will change.

All we need is less dependence on oil then we won't worry about the demand and supply of oil, that's all it really takes.

I agree with you and I like the idea of corn oil!~ :)

So we can make the Farmers wealthy?

Yeah, like AMERICAN farmers. Hmm?

Worst ideas in the world stated above. Alternative fuels are the key. Joe Lieberman is a DINO anyway -- Democrat In Name Only. He's the closest thing to a Republican that's still in the Democratic party. So, no wonder he's being ousted.

Buckdodger's ideas are stupid. Holding more gas isn't the problem. It's the efficiency of USING the gas that's the problem. Fuel economy is the key -- NOT fuel storage.

Drilling for more oil will do jack shit for our problems. We'll just run out of it faster, jacking up the prices even higher. You want cheap gas? Go BIODIESEL!

And John McCain is a Liberal Republican. He doesnt favor oil drilling at ANWR.

While what you say is true, remember SUVs get less fuel economy and because of that they often have larger gas tanks. So, there is some merit to what Buck suggested. In reality, the best incentives to get people to drive more fuel efficient vehicles should be based on several factors...

1) Fuel efficiency
2) Weight of vehicle (not size as size is a function of weight...of course the reverse is true but it is better to have less weight and hence use less gas)
3) Size of engine (a tax on vehicles with engines > 6 cylinders)
4) Handle multiple fuel types (i.e., E85 and etc)

If this were done by using taxes (make them stiff too) on such vehicles that don't meet these criterion, then you will see driving habits change very quickly. Nothing like pain in the wallet to get people to shift habits.

Why not a TAX in NASCAR also? Cause they waste fuel 30 cars driving around the track.

Buck, that is strictly entertainment and there aren't that many people involved in the sport. Heck, the teams probably get their gas free as part of the advertisment deals...

One of the other problems is that oil is a commodity that has its price affected by speculation. The oil we are using today was most likely purchased at much lower prices. The speculation affects todays prices regardless of what the oil was purchased at or how long ago.

I totally agree that we need to develop other alternatives.

What really urkes me is that the oil companies are reporting record profits right now.. In the Billions... How about they just cut into their profits a bit and give us a break at the pump.
