The Indiana Association of the Deaf crowned Brynne Morag Kirklin of Indianapolis Miss Deaf Indiana 2005-2007 during a pageant Saturday in Richmond.
Kirklin's talent was an American Sign Language (ASL) poem explaining the importance of English to hearing people and ASL to deaf/hard of hearing people. The business platform she presented reflected the encouragement and acknowledgement of high schools in Indiana to include ASL in the foreign language selections and the opportunity of students to learn ASL.
Kirklin will represent Indiana at the Miss Deaf America Pageant during the National Association of the Deaf Conference in July 2006.
The location of New Orleans will be changed to the West Coast because of the impact of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
