Ohio dad charged with murdering wife, 4 kids
Mother, 4 children die, pulled from flames; father stabbed, recovers

updated 4:39 p.m. ET Jan. 12, 2008
MASON, Ohio - Police charged a man Saturday with murdering his wife and their four children, who were pulled from their burning home the night before.

Michael Veillette, 34, was charged with four counts of aggravated murder, one count of murder and one count of aggravated arson in the Friday night fire, Officer Troy Nelson said.

Veillette also had been stabbed, Nelson said. He remained in stable but serious condition Saturday at University Hospital in Cincinnati, Nelson said. He wouldn't speculate on how Veillette received his injuries.

Nadya Ferrari-Veillette, 33, died along with her children, Marguarite, 8, Vincent, 4, and 3-year-old twins Jacob and Mia, Nelson said.

Authorities received a call reporting the house ablaze just before 10 p.m., Nelson said.

Ferrari-Veillette, who had knife wounds and fire-related injuries, and one child were found dead inside the two-story house. Three of the couple's other children were pulled from the flames from upstairs bedrooms. They died at a hospital. The children had been stabbed, Nelson said.

The father had jumped out of a second-story window. He was found on the ground.

Autopsies were to begin Saturday.

The family had been living in Mason, about 20 miles northeast of Cincinnati, for about two years, Nelson said.

I don't understand why father did like that...

Why kill innoncent children for? This is a definitely sick!!!!!!!!!!

*Sigh* Has this world gone insane? I've been reading more and more about parents killing their children, what is wrong with these parents lately and how can they intentionally hurt their own children? When will everyone realize how serious domestic violence is?

Another losing their marbles again!

Another state guy is press charged toss their children out of the bridge.. Now next another guy did stabb'em rest all the children then flame the house!

*cough* sicko!

Yes, it is sick.

Also, eight tiny children were murdered in Schleswig-Holstein and Plauen, Germany, last month.

A teen was beaten to death in downtown Winnipeg this week, a young passerby was shot and killed in Toronto, and the man suspected of murdering the woman and children in Ohio, USA, is from Laval, Quebec.

I’m a little curious as to why bad news about the States is so much more interesting than more local bad news?

May I correct you, it's 5 children, not 8 children last month. Yes, it's very sad.. .:( It's not just them but other mother who buried 9 newborns in her garden and freezer at 2 years ago... other mother killed newborns and throw to rubbish bin or lake that's time the abortion law was stricter in 80s. After that happened, they loose the abortion law and have counsellors to talk mother-to-be to not abort or suggest them to give up for adoption... less newborns killings. They are allow to abort their fetus up to 12 weeks. The parents let their daughter starve to death at few months ago and also last year. Happened around twice to 4 times a year.

It explains in those link that USA has the highest homicide rate for children of any industrialized nation in the world. It also explain in different reasons - poor & low-income families have to kill their children because they are unable to support them etc.

Children, Murder of - Historical and cross-cultural overview, Factors in the murder of children, Familial homicides

It explains why the children murder everyday in the USA than other countries.

This article states eight children murdered in Germany.

Several other statistical sources disagree with the artcle you posted, placing the U.S. variously 24th to 26th in murders per capita.

Another article challenges the reporting accuracy of many countries where deaths of children are not challenged by authorities. In other words, what the family or the family physician reports is the official version. Such coverups happen less and less in the U.S.

My point isn't to quibble over varying statistics nor to continue trading URLs which can be found somewhere to support just about any view.

My point is that these unspeakable horrors take place all around us, and yet it seems this thread makes an effort to emphasize what happens in the States despite what goes on in their own back yards. It's kind of like the old saying that when a finger is pointed at others, three fingers point back at oneself.
