Cheryl Prusinski, a 1986 Social Work graduate of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology, received the YWCA Women of Achievement Award. Prusinski, director of the Student Life Department at the Ohio School for the Deaf, was recognized for founding Deaf Women Against Violence (DWave) in Columbus, Ohio. She now serves as board president.

DWave’s mission is to promote a violence-free world for Central Ohio’s deaf and hard-of-hearing community through education programs related to domestic violence, sexual assault, and rape survival.

She was also recognized for her efforts to hire a diverse staff that includes deaf and hearing men and women who represent different ethnicities.

Prusinski, a resident of Lewis Center, is pursuing a master’s degree in Education Administration from the University of Dayton.
