Now, deaf can pursue higher studies in city - Newindpress.com

Now the hearing impaired students of the State will have a college to pursue education after school.

The Orissa Government has given a nod to Satyabhama Devi College for Hearing Impaired to offer Plus Two courses beginning this academic session.

This is the first such college in Orissa, and second in the country. Founded by city-based Satyabhama Devi Welfare trust, it will have 32 seats to begin with.

The college will provide education through hearing aid, close circuit TV and overhead projectors. Library and computer labs have also been put in place at Patrapara from where it will operate.

As of now, there are seven high schools for hearing impaired students in the State. But after completing Class X, they had to either stop education or go to Chennai where a dedicated college runs under the Tamil Nadu University.

Students will have English and MIL as compulsory subjects while the elective courses would be Computer Science, Political Science, Economics and History. College sources said, last date for receiving application would be September 7.
