The Nigerian team of the deaf at the weekend gave Germany a 4-0 hiding in a charity match to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The friendly match which was put together by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, as a feature of its corporate social responsibility efforts, was played at the main bowl of the National Stadium, Abuja.

Nigerian team under the auspice of the National Deaf Football Association (NDFA) squared up against the Germans who were all expatriate staff of Julius Berger.

The skilful Nigerians scored a goal in the first half and effectively ended the game as a contest by tucking in three additional goals after the break.

Nasarawa State Governor Tanko Umar Al Makura, performed the ceremonial kick off of the friendly match that was preceded by a game between children from the Abuja based French and German schools.

The occasion was also enlivened by a cultural dance show performed by a troupe of 18 persons with disabilities just before the restart.

Julius Berger began its support for the NDFA in 2009, resulting in the maiden football meeting between the Deaf and Julius Berger football team, led by Wolfgang Goetsch, the Managing Director of Julius Berger.
