NFL Network set to launch Nov. 4

League’s own channel will be available on DirecTV

ASSOCIATED PRESS

NEW YORK, July 10 — The NFL Network will kick off on Election Day. A 24-hour network dedicated to coverage of the league will launch on Nov. 4 at 8 p.m. EST with the broadcast of “NFL Total Access.”

THE ONE-HOUR LIVE studio show, to be hosted by Rich Eisen, will serve as the network’s flagship program. Eisen was previously an anchor for ESPN’s “SportsCenter.”
The start-up of the network, which is run by the NFL, will follow the ninth week of the season.
“The launch of a network that celebrates the NFL is a tremendously exciting project,” network president and CEO Steve Bornstein said in a statement Thursday. “Our mission is to deliver programming that honors the NFL’s rich tradition and captures the excitement that turns on millions of fans.”
NFL Network will be carried on DirecTV’s basic service, and will be available in approximately 11.4 million homes.
The network will provide year-round, round-the-clock coverage of the NFL. The programming will be made up of original shows featuring highlights and analysis, and preseason games. The network will also have access to archives of NFL Films.
“NFL Total Access” will be broadcast nightly from Los Angeles and will provide news and information on all 32 teams.
The NFL is not the first professional sports league to run its own channel. NBA TV launched during the previous basketball season and was available in about 20 million homes.
