The new superintendent of the North Dakota School for the Deaf is on the job.
Dennis Fogelson started his new job Monday. State school Superintendent Wayne Sanstead formally introduced Fogelson to staff members, students and the community on Wednesday.
Fogelson said he knows he'll have to deal with declining enrollment at the school. But he said he'd like to spend some time before making recommendations.
Fogelson worked nine years for the Minnesota Department of Education as a regional consultant. Earlier, he was the first executive director of Alpha Opportunities, an adult developmental disabilities facility he started in Jamestown.
He has a master's degree in education from North Dakota State University and bachelor of science degree from Mayville State University.
He succeeds Rocky Cofer, who resigned as superintendent of the School for the Deaf last summer for personal reasons. Cofer had been at the school 10 years, and had been superintendent since 1998.
Fogelson came out of retirement to take the job in Devils Lake.
He'll be paid $65,000 a year, and will get housing on campus.
