What's up? My name is Brent Jones, and I am a current ASL student at TCC in Fort Worth, TX. After I become a certified interpreter my next goal is to receive my B.Ed. Teaching ASL as a foreign language on the secondary level. I am new to the site and looking to make new friends, and better my understanding of the Deaf Culture, as well as improve my signing skills and become more involved in the Deaf Community.

Just so you are aware the skills and education for teaching in ASL are very different than interpreting. One does not provide you with the skills for another. Also traditionally ASL is taught (for logical reasons) by Hoh or Deaf individuals with native use of the language who've also been taught how to teach ASL.

Before going through all the steps to become an interpreter (which requires a pre-degree btw) I'd really investigate what specifically you want to do and if it's realistic etc then acquire appropraite education accordingly.

Also a B.Ed. Isn't going to prepare you to teach ASL (or teach in ASL). You'll have to take specific additional education in order to do that and pass various testing before being lisensed to teach (if allowed - here hearing don't teach ASL period).

Welcome to Alldeaf brent, how long to ASL training to your experience?
