New look for deaf school - Fiji Times Online

STAFF of Bank of South Pacific and Colonial National Bank Samabula Branch and their families and friends finished painting Gospel School for the Deaf yesterday.

Colonial Fiji marketing communications officer Akuila Rawaqa said about 20 branches Fiji-wide were given $20,000 each to carry out community projects.

He said the Samabula Branch chose to carry out their project at the school.

Branch manager Sefanaia Qalilawa said about 17 staff had been going to the school every Saturday for the past three weeks to carry out the work.

He said they cleaned the outside of the school and then painted it.

"We have been spending five to six hours here every Saturday," he said.

Mr Qalilawa said staff also provided meals for the students when they started the project.

He said some senior students had also been helping the staff in cleaning and painting.

"The state of the building was very bad and we tried to give it a new look," he said.

Mr Qalilawa said the main objective was to get the staff involved and wok with the community.

The Director of the school, Jim Cooney said the staff did a wonderful job with cleaning and painting the school.

"It was much needed work that they did. We are going to celebrate the new look when students come back to school after the holidays," he said.

He said the management was very happy with the initiative by the bank.
