CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. -- Drivers beware. Georgia's Highway Patrol wants you to slow down or be ready to pay up.
It's a law Dave Carson says is needed. "We're coming from vacation in South Florida and are on our way back to Charlotte, North Carolina. There are a lot of speeders out there," he said.
The Super Speeder law will tack on an additional $200 for drivers topping 85 miles per hour on four lane roads and interstates or 75 miles per hour on two lane roads.
"When you drive down Interstate 95, people are speeding all the time. And maybe the additional penalty will prevent them from doing this," he said. Drivers who don't pay will get their licenses suspended.
Smokers in Florida will also be lighting and re-lighting their new fire-safe cigarettes in 2010. These cigarettes are designed to go out when they're not puffed.
Georgia will also protect the confidentiality of some of their voters. Under the Vote Safe law, the addresses of domestic violence victims will remain private to keep their abusers from finding them.
Those eligible for the Voter Safe law must be under a protective or restraining order or be a resident of a family violence shelter. Georgia voters interested in signing up can call 404-656-2871.
