Apple OSX Users!,

My wife had problem with Epson Workforce 615 wireless printer communication with OSX Snow Leopard 10.6. We had it for over 6 months.

What happened was that last early summer, It was perfectly fine since she bought Apple Powerbook and Epson printer. Until I decide to use Fax on printer. I wired the phone cord to printer then sent application to company. After successful faxing, I unplugged the phone cord and changed the setting in printer to turn off the fax. My wife tried to print documents from her Apple notebook but printer won't print. I have gone over Apple's Epson printer software and it look fine to me but it won't communicate with printer.. I had friend who are expert with Apple OSX (he own apple too) and he have spent half of the night tying to fix the problem. He uninstalled and installed printer software, installed updated printer software via download, installed previous version software ect. It still won't communicate with it. Printer software did show printer's IP address correctly and is connected. We've gone through printer's settings and it's not much we can do since it's been set correctly as instructed.

I get blamed by my wife for screwing up the connection but my friend told me it's never my fault. He said it have to do with OSX Snow Leopard's issue with Epson printer software. It's been finicky on that. Internet connection between OSX and Router had no problem.

Funny thing are that, My Tuxbox (Ubuntu laptop or desktop), Windows laptops and desktops all recognized and connects with wireless Epson Workforce 615 printer with NO ISSUE and it prints out just perfectly fine regardless If I use printer as fax and change setting. My wife had to use either Ubuntu or Windows to print out document :mad2:

What all broils down to Apple OSX issue. MY friend told me that no matter how hard he tried and still can't get it fixed. He was surprised that it was tough to get it fixed. I told him if firewall an issue with Apple or D-Link DIR-655 Extreme N Router. We've checked router settings and it all set correctly and its firewall been turned off as always. We do see IP address coming from printer itself on Apple OSX. He tried to check OSX's firewall and it was set correctly. But printer won't just print for OSX.

I like to view your wife's OSX so I can figured it out. It's hard to tell without looks your wife's Macbook. I used network specialist for network printer company for Windows, OSX, and some Linux.

What kind of protocol you use? Did you try ping from OSX to network printer?
Which driver you use? Keep in mind. SOME drivers for 10.5 (Leopard) or older don't mean it will work with 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

Most Windows use PCL (Printer Command Language) driver and most OSX use PS (PostScript) driver. Some printers won't work with PS. I don't know why.

OK It is on DHCP (recommended by printer software). I pinged to printer and it showed 10 packet sent/ 10 packet received and no errors. It showed that it's working just fine. Epson Drivers and Utilities combo pack (drivers version 8.08) for Apple OSX 10.6 - 10.6x. That's as far as I can go.

My wife mentioned that the guy who tried to fix her OSX issue and he think that her college document (many of them) on Actrobat may have blocking it from printing. I have checked printer query and it only show I just test printed recently but only came back with error.

I agree with you that it may not be issue with software and driver for OSX 10.6x.

I recently factory reset the printer's firmware and reset network setting. It show that it connects to D-link Extreme N Router DIR-655 with 100% signal connection. My Windows 7 laptop and Ubuntu are able to get printer printing like before.

So It all narrows back down to Apple OSX.

Question is that how do you remove Epson driver and software from OSX? I wanted to completely remove it then reinstall it.

Suggestions?

Do you try print out from textedit app?

I prefer statie IP address on network printer over DHCP. I see some customers have issue with printer due DHCP setting. I don't believe that Epson recommend DHCP. I disagreed with it.

Hard drive/Library/Printers/Epson <- remove
and
Hard drive/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/ (any drivers for Epson) <- remove

Sometime direct driver from print's company do not work then I use Apple's Generic PCL and I have no problem with that.

Problem SOLVED!!!

I found out why it had problem for quite a long while... Blame goes to DIR-655 Dlink router.

How did it happened?

Like what I mentioned on first post, I turned off the printer which turns off its wireless connection to Dlink router. Then I assumed that Dlink decide to reassigned Printer's IP address to another device which logged on apparently from my kid turning on their system or Z340 VP logged off and on itself while I was using printer as fax. Then returned printer back to its spot and turned back on again. Router detected it and reassigned printer a new IP address. Then OSX lost its connection to printer when it was turned on, assuming that printer either was off or changed. I use OSX's printer menu and deleted original Default Epson on list then added Epson from it's list and it did detected printer and set it. Then I printed test page and it won't print except error message (Dock bar showed Epson printer icon bouncing up and down with red triangle on it). I decide to ping it to printer. It pinged back as normal.

So I decide to try another methods, I deleted Default Epson from OSX's printer list then close the window. Then ran Epson's setup program and went through setup. First detected Epson printer with correct IP address no problem. Next, It ask "Automatic (DHCP), I clicked next. There are few options, computer connect to printer through network ect.. I saw "setup configuraton" button so I clicked and next window show several options of network to use. I clicked "Manual Network Settings". Next, It listed Routers and I clicked "Dlink", Next It asked passphase so I typed it in then Next, It check its connection from OSX to Printer shown on animated picture then suddenly Router popped in between it and I clicked "Next" It tested the connection between OSX and Printer and wait few min. It passed then finished. I clicked "Finished'. Epson setup program closed then I went to
Safari Browser and print the webpage. The OSX own printer box popped and showing "no printers" So I clicked drop down menu and scrolled down and found Epsonxxx then it loads driver and program quickly then I clicked Print and Printer finally worked for first time. But on 2nd and 3rd try, it won't work. Ummph then My wife took over and fiddle the same thing on Browser. She decide to click drop down list of printer and scrolled a bit further and found "Epson wf 610 :192.168.0.194" and chose it then it loads driver and progam quickly. Then she tested print it and it works on 1st try, 2nd try and 3rd try so forth without issue.

So Apparently OSX had printer's old IP address and possibilty MAC address attached to it preventing it from communicating to printer.

I will setup Router's Network Filter to add MAC address in so it'll assign ONLY to printer. Or one of filter to lock Printer's IP address so Router won't reassign it to another device.

Got it?

Sound like DHCP issue since OSX use printer's wrong/old IP address. Just set network printer as statie IP address then you won't get headache anymore in future. When you turned the printer off for while then turned it back on and it got new ip address thru DHCP. That's big problem. So The statie IP won't change the IP address at all even you reboot the machine.

Good job!
