Hi, I already posted this in the Deaf Products & Technologies category, but no replies so thought I'd try here. Hope that's okay!

============================

I previously relied on the old, but reliable Watchman alerting system just for the telephone and doorbell for apartment-living, but now I am wanting to replace it with something new and updated.

I'm in search of an alerting system that will handle the doorbell, intercom (in case I am living in an apartment in the future--right now I live in a house), telephone, fire/smoke alarm, and burglar/security alarm.

In addition to the strobe light/flashing lamp alert I would like to get a vibrating pager that I can wear around the house when I am out of view from a strobe light/flashing lamp or even outside in the garden plus a vibrating alert for under the mattress/pillow.

I am also wondering if there's any alerting systems that will work even when the power goes out.

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions. Cheers!

I would suggest trying to rig up your own thing, use LEDs they only draw 1 volt and are pretty cheap/bright as hell. Vibration is pretty easy to rig up, radio frenquicies... other than that i have no idea... I'm the type to make things, if i had the time i could probably take apart a couple things you can get at a thrift store and radio-shack for less than 20 and rig up some spiffy thing.

Edit; instructables.com is a great place to go to ask how to make stuff like that.

Thanks Dark-Half. I'm totally not one that is able to tinker around with technical stuff. My priority is to find something that will work when the electricity goes out. I've seen little indoor generators from Canadian Tire and thought maybe I could have certain alert systems plugged in.

Maybe I should ask what brands of alerting systems you all are using, and where you got them? In Canada I seem to be limited to the CHS in Toronto and the WIDHH in Vancouver. There's so many web-sites out there I'm a bit confused which brands are good and which companies to buy from.
