National recognition for service to deaf - Sheffield Telegraph
CUSTOMER services provided by Sheffield Council for people who are deaf or hard of hearing has received national recognition.
The Royal National Institute for the Deaf has awarded the council its Louder Than Words charter for meeting 10 standards to ensure people with hearing problems are given the best service possible.
Sheffield Council leader Coun Jan Wilson said: "I'm delighted the RNID have awarded us the Louder than Words charter mark. It's incredibly important that we ensure the services we provide are accessible to everyone."
High standards expected range from adequate equipment provision to communication support.
Sheffield Council's improvements, carried out while liaising with RNID, have included deaf awareness training for staff and consultation with a group of deaf customers about how services can be improved.
