National Deaf Awareness week begins; power restored to storm victims.
Today, teachers, students and families those attending the Texas School for the Deaf are celebrating National Deaf Awareness Week with a community screening of Scholastic Media's "Maya & Miguel."
The special episode, "Give Me A Little Sign," which will be presented in open caption, includes insights and understanding about the challenges of learning sign language and relays to children the importance of acceptance and kindness to others with differences.
The screening starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Texas School for the Deaf, 1102 S. Congress Ave., and will feature costumed characters from the show.
