Halifax, The Daily News: News | N.S. woman planning appeal after losing lawsuit against school for deaf

A woman whose lawsuit against a former school for the deaf was dismissed last week by a Supreme Court judge says she will appeal.

Jane Suttis and her hearing-impaired daughter, Jennifer Cooper, claim officials at the Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority failed to protect Cooper from being sexually abused by a male employee between 1979 and 1985.

There were frequent allegations of sexual abuse at the school in Amherst in the 1980s.

The lawsuit was thrown out last week after the defendant applied to strike the entire statement of claim and move to summary judgment.

Suttis says her lawyer has agreed to prepare the application and affadavits, but another legal counsel will see the appeal through.
