Over the weekend, I was looking for an alternative music player for my Android tablet. I don't trust the stock Google music player because I'm not sure whether Google is uploading my music. I was pretty mad when Apple DRM'd my music library and expected me to pay again for music I had bought years ago on CDROM. Now, Google has people uploading music libraries over the web, a fool hardy thing at best.

To guard against this, I wanted to use an open source music player which did not come from Google. I found an app called Tunewiki(also mentioned in other posts here: http://www.alldeaf.com/deaf-products-technologies/89141-useful-apps.html). It seemed like a great product which shows lyrics for music, perfect for a deaf guy like me. However, the latest version of the app sniffs through you sms messages. It's caused some controversy on the web and I thought I would make people here aware of it. Here are some links:

To be fair: Tunewiki is removing the SMS feature (although, I have not see a fix for this yet).

For now, just be careful about what you put on your devices.

At the moment, I'm looking into musicXmatch as a lyrics alternative. There is also a few open source projects in the works, but not available at this time.
