PETERBOROUGH mums have taken a big walk in aid of a national deaf children's charity.
The group took part in the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) event Walk Forward, in London, raising more than £500 as they did so.

The team completed a 10-mile sponsored walk alongside families of deaf children, young people and NDCS supporters.

In total, the event has raised a staggering £20,000 for the NDCS, the only UK charity solely dedicated to supporting deaf children, their families and professionals working with them.

The group included Fiona Forkin, Vicky Bennett, Christine Simpkins and Alison Ward, who walked past famous landmarks including Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament.

Fiona Forkin, who is an active member of the Peterborough Deaf Children’s Society, said: ”We are all mothers of deaf children, so we know very well the importance of having your child’s hearing screened at the earliest possible opportunity.

“Newborn hearing screening wasn’t available for my own daughter; I only wish it had been.”

n For information and support about your child’s hearing, call the NDCS freephone helpline on 0808 800 8880.
