Mt. Pleasant man jailed in Mecosta County on rape charges - themorningsun.com

A 30-year-old Mt. Pleasant man is in the Mecosta County Jail awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania on rape charges.

Christopher Lauer, who is hearing impaired, is jailed and awaiting trial in Mecosta County for first-degree criminal sexual conduct, Big Rapids Police Detective Brian Miller said.

Lauer’s trial in Mecosta County has been put on hold until the outcome of the case in Pittsburgh, where he is accused of kidnapping and raping a woman with similar disabilities.

Lauer is accused of raping a deaf woman in Big Rapids in March 2010.

The incident in Pittsburgh is alleged to have happened in 2004; DNA evidence from that case led to Lauer, according to the Associated Press.

Lauer turned himself in on Thursday for the charges in Pittsburgh, Miller said.

Lauer, who is also speech-impaired, is accused of pulling in to a van a woman who is undergoing transsexual treatments and lives as a man, duct-taping her and raping her while attending an event for deaf people, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Wednsday.

Lauer was charged in Pittsburgh Tuesday with rape, kidnapping and other crimes in connection with the 2004 attack in Uptown, according to the Pittsburgh newspaper.

Prior to turning himself in at the Mecosta County Jail, Lauer had been free on bond in the Big Rapids case.
