MP Stephen Hammond pledges to help deaf children in Sri Lanka (From Wimbledon Guardian)
An MP for Wimbledon visited a college for the deaf in Sri Lanka, funded by a UK-based charity Helplanka.
Stephen Hammond spoke to the teaching staff and to a class of the deaf children through interpreters at St Joseph’s College for the Deaf in Ragama.
He has pledged to support Helplanka in fundraising for a special nationwide programme in Sri Lanka for Deaf and Blind children this Christmas.
He said: “I was very impressed with the level of services provided to the children and the dedication of the teaching staff. However I do believe that certainly more can be done on a permanent basis to help the children."
