Most Ridiculous Taxes from around the World

Some politician wanted to have a cow tax in my state and never happen ! The farmers protested it.

I disagree with Denmark taxing saturated fat. Saturated fat is actually good for your body.

Keys was responsible for convincing the public that saturated fat and cholesterol are bad, but there were problems with his data. He omitted many important factors from his data to support his hypothesis. The American Heart Association originally opposed his hypothesis, and even wrote many pages indicating that there absolutely was no evidence supporting that saturated fat and cholesterol are bad. You need cholesterol for your brain. Without it, your brain is as fuzzy as Alzheimer's disease.

Several years later, the American Heart Association accepted that saturated fat and cholesterol are bad. What made the AHA changed its mind? No, it wasn't the evidence. There was no new evidence to either confirm or reject Keys' hypothesis. Keys was a member of the AHA committee, which leaded to the AHA to adopt the hypothesis, and proclaim that saturated fat and cholesterol are killers. His face ended up on TIME.

I saw a proposed tax on Christmas trees in the US, but it seems that congress was shooting it down.

Imagine that! Tax on xmas trees.

I thought White House spokesman said that USDA is going to delay it, and revisit a proposed tax on Christmas trees?

There is tax on plants so what the difference having it on trees?

I'm under impression that if you went to store and bought a Christmas tree, you have to pay tax so what is the difference?

USDA wants to establish the National Christmas Tree Promotion Board, because more people choose artificial Christmas Tree over natural Christmas tree. The tax would be 15 cents- may increase to 20 cents. We don't need it since there are plenty of the Christmas Tree Association organizations out there that promote the purchase of natural Christmas Tree.

SUMMARY: This rule establishes an industry-funded promotion, research,
and information program for fresh cut Christmas trees. The Christmas
Tree Promotion, Research, and Information Order (Order) is authorized
under the Commodity Promotion, Research, and Information Act of 1996
(1996 Act). The Order will establish a national Christmas Tree
Promotion Board (Board) comprised of 11 producers and one importer.
Under the Order, producers and importers of fresh cut Christmas trees
will pay an initial assessment of fifteen cents per Christmas tree.
Producers and importers that produce or import less than 500 Christmas
trees annually will be exempt from the assessment. A referendum will be
conducted, among producers and importers, three years after the
collection of assessments begin to determine if Christmas tree
producers and importers favor the continuation of this program.

The U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management now offer Christmas tree permits for $8-$10. You need a licensed tree cutter with you. Don't do The Griswold family way.
