CONTRARY to early reports, Miss Deaf World 2009 will be held in Czech Republic at Prague in a top hotel on the 11th of July.
Sizwe Ndlela, who is a teacher and director of the theatre programme at the School For The Deaf in Siteki, said all had been finalised pertaining the date and venue of the event.
The Miss Deaf Swaziland organising committee is appealing for funds from companies and individuals to send the winner to Miss Deaf World. Ndlela said anyone making a contribution towards this would be helping in the creation of a more compassionate and caring enviroment, where the weak, the backward, the handicapped and the uncompetitive were given equal opportunities to take full advantage of their God-given talents where the right opportunities exist.
"I am at the moment busy with proposals to secure financiers for her trip. I think the time has come for us to start serious fundraising campaigns to send the queen to the event," said Ndlela. He said their main concern was getting funding for Miss Deaf Swaziland Simphiwe Magagula.
"We appeal to companies and members of the public for funding to send the winner to Czech Republic. Since the event is three months away, I think we should start preparations early."
Ndlela said at the moment they were not certain about the amount needed because they were waiting for the Miss Deaf World organisers to finalise other logistics concerning this year's event.
He added that it was only wise to start preparing for the event even before the Miss Deaf World organisers finalises everything pertaining the event.
"The winner will be accompanied by her manager, interpreter and a chaperone. We are very much optimistic that the winner will eventually attend the Miss Deaf World pageant. We will only be able to know how much is needed after getting a feedback from the organisers."
He added that they would regularly be updating members of the public about latest developments on the Miss Deaf World contest.
Objectives of the Miss Deaf Swaziland beauty pageant are to bring out the inherent talents of Deaf pupils, to develop artistic and creative ability of deaf pupils, elevate the image and self-confidence of the children, encourage and foster future leaders. Others are to create a more caring and compassionate environment for the deaf pupils as well as to promote deaf culture and community.
