If I am getting low sound in my digital hearing aids that is already way up, do you think I might be losing some of my hearing?

I don't have any problem with my right ear with these digital hearing aid.

When I take my hearing aid off, I don't hear anything much anyway. My audiologist thinks it is my ear effecting the sound to be low when I tried to hear something on this ear. I don't have any problem with my right ear.

Ah, it may be a phenomenon called "recruitment". This is not tinnitus which is what I suspected at first. Recruitment is a situation where there are not enough cochlear hairs to function or respond to certain sound frequencies. The cochlea starts "recruiting" other close cochlear hairs to compensate for the missing cochlear hairs. In other words, the cochlear hairs in a certain set of frequencies start working overtime and out of that you get crossover effects. This means in this case the low sounds you hear when there is no such "sound" being generated out there. Eventually, recruitment becomes a real problem as you can get to the point not wanting to hear anything at all in that ear as all you hear is "noise".

Bottomline, yes you are probably looking at losing the functionality of that ear at some point down the road.

I think that is not a good sign the way you explain to me. I really don't want to lose anymore of my hearing. I just have to wait and see what happen when I take another hearing test in June. I hope it won't get worst when you said down the road.

Just remember I was giving an opinion and I'm no doctor. I hope you are not experiencing anything serious with your hearing.

I didn't notice you are in NC area too. I am not far from Raleigh.

Yep, I live south of Raleigh. My family moved down here from DC some 8 years ago and we just love it here. Great place to raise a family and the people are great. The climate doesn't hurt either.

You can PM me if you want to talk more details...:D
