In honor of Deaf Awareness Week, Staunton Public Library will present Traveling Without Hearing at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Presenter Donna Wait is a teacher and school administrator who works as a residential advisor at Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind. Born deaf in Stratford, Ontario, she was educated at Gallaudet University and has taught in Minnesota, Maryland, Mississippi and Virginia. Her travels have included Morocco, Greece, Italy, Germany and China. She will talk about her traveling experiences from the viewpoint of being deaf with a special focus on her trip to China one year before the Olympics began and how her group survived with limited services of interpreters. The program is designed to provide insight for those who are deaf and those who travel with deaf or hearing-impaired companions. The program will be interpreted for the deaf and voiced for the hearing. For more information, call 332-3902.
