ASHOORA lectures translated in sign language are being offered at the Mohammed bin Hassan Al Naimi Ma'tam, Naim, from tonight.

They have been offered for the past two years, during the last five days of Ashoora, which begins tomorrow.

The lectures, which will begin at 9pm, will continue until next Wednesday.

Shawqi Al Matooq will offer the translation for men and Zamzam Al Zaky for women.

Meanwhile, mute and deaf people will be taking part in a clean-up campaign from Pearl Roundabout to the Salmaniya Roundabout at 9am tomorrow.

The event is organised by the ma'tam in co-ordination with the Manama Municipal Council and the Manama Municipality.

It is sponsored by Arabian Airlines.

Ma'tam secretary Mahdi Al Naimi said about 80 men and 18 women from across the country attended lectures last year.

"We expect more to attend this year, but most are complaining they don't have adequate transportation," he said.

"The ma'tam hopes donors would support the event, which aims at integrating the mute and deaf and making them feel they are a part of the community."

"We want them to know about the importance of Ashoora."

Special processions for the deaf and mute will be held next Thursday, starting from the ma'tam.

A pick-up truck carrying a large screen will feature Hussain carols in sign language.

The processions will start at 1pm to coincide with Naim's main processions.

To donate for the deaf and mute events, contact Mr Al Naimi on 39461429.
