Pro Tip: If you are going to ground your sixteen year-old daughter and revoke her cell phone privileges, make sure you take away her lighter so she doesn't burn your house to the ground.

A LeClaire, Iowa, teen is charged with first-degree arson, accused of setting her house on fire because she did not like her mother’s discipline, police say.

Anissa Lynn Reyna, 16, of 215 S. 3rd St., lit a curtain at her house on fire with a lighter about 7:30 p.m. Monday. Her mother, an 18-month-old child and her “mute, invalid” grandfather in a wheelchair were at home, according to court documents. They were not injured.

Two cats and a dog died as a result of the blaze.

The house was a complete loss, LeClaire Police Chief Jim Pfeiffer said. An investigator from the State Fire Marshal’s office was at the scene Tuesday afternoon with LeClaire Fire Chief Mark Slagle.

Firefighters called to the house found a large amount of smoke with flames showing in one of the front windows, according to a news release from the LeClaire Police Department.

Under Iowa law, Reyna is automatically is charged as an adult. Reyna was transported to the Scott County Jail, where she is being held. The arson charge carries the possibility of 25 years behind bars upon conviction.

LeClaire firefighters were assisted on the scene by the Princeton Fire Department, Riverdale Fire Department, Medic Ambulance Service, American Red Cross of the Quad-Cities, LeClaire Police Department, Scott County Sheriff’s Department and Princeton Police Department.

Someone mentioned a show from another forum that he saw a television show showing that they conducted a test to see what happens when teens get their cell phones taken away from them and the results was pretty surprising. They all went bat-shiat crazy.

My guess since she most likely will not get a full 25 year sentence on account of the sleaze lawyers and the bleeding heart liberals running around loose everywhere. She may get less than 10 years.

If it were up to me, I'd throw the book at her, 25 years in prison, no parole. 25 years probation after she gets out, one screw up from her and she goes back for another 25. Then stuffed into a old folks home, tied to a bed so she can't try to burn down the old folks home.

That's just me.

One other thing, where's the charge to animal cruelty? Poor pets died because she went bat-shiat crazy over being grounded. Those pets didn't deserve this. Oh, where's the attempted murder charge? For crying out loud, her family could have died in the fire, especially the grandmother.

*sighs* I'd about swear that teenagers are getting more insane at each passing generation.

This is appalling what she did to the family home not to mention the family pets. She could have killed her family.

I wonder if she now regrets her action? Her family is now homeless and I doubt they'd have the money to defend her in court.

It depends on how tough the judges are in her area, if they are then she might get a heavy penalty.

And in prison, you can't have cellphone, so no excuse for going crazy.
