Learning Experience Students Sing and Donate to NJ School of Deaf - Manalapan, NJ Patch

The young students of Learning Experience of Manalapan, a child development and learning center, held a very successful Holiday Chorale and Art Sale and Auction this past holiday season.

The third annual chorale took place on Dec. 15 at the Frehold Jewish Center where the Learning Experience students sung holiday songs. In addition to the great holiday showcase, the event raises money for a charity every year. The charitable component of the event ties into the school's philosophy about humanitarian education.

This year, the young students (ranging from infant age to six-years-old) sang onstage alongside a signing interpreter to deaf children from the New Jersey School for the Deaf.

“I could not be more proud of our wonderful students and very dedicated teaching staff,” Karen Rosen, Co-owner of The Learning Experience of Manalapan, said. “It was an aggressive undertaking to teach our young students not only the lyrics to the different songs, but also the accompanying sign language. But our staff was very focused on the mission and our students were terrific learners. We
practiced for months. And it is very special to see how it all came together.”

Alumni of the school passed out props, including red-blinking noses during "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, to the deaf students in the audience. There was also a special appearance by Bubbles the Elephant®! The sign language, props, refreshments and Bubbles helped the deaf students enjoy the musical presentation.

At the end of the program, the students sang and signed to the song "We are the World" by Michael Jackson. “The flashing lights from all the cameras were like paparazzi!” Ainell Pena, Marketing and Event Manager for The Learning Experience of Manalapan, said. “It was a poignant moment.”

Before the chorale, the students raised funds at a "meet-and-greet" reception by selling hand-made artwork projects that they created. There were more than 300 pieces of child artwork which were sold for $2 and less. The students worked for weeks on their projects and enthusiastic parents purchased the pieces with the knowledge that the money went to a charity.

The Director of the New Jersey School for the Deaf (Katzenbah Campus) was presented a check by The Learning Experience of Manalapan's co-owners Dawn Lego and Karen Rosen.

“I could not be more thankful to the parents, teaching staff and exceptional students at our school,” Lego said. “It is only with everyone’s support that we could attain such grand success at our holiday chorale. We go beyond teaching ABCs and 123s at our center. Karen and I aspire to have the finest teaching experience and care for infants, preschoolers and kindergarteners in Monmouth County. Amongst many other fine programs, humanity has always been part of our curriculum. I am confident that together we have delivered a program to be remembered for many years to come.”
