DAYTONA BEACH -- A 57-year-old man remained hospitalized with serious injuries Sunday -- a day after he was struck by a Jeep on Ridgewood Avenue, police said.
Johnny D. Fields was walking or running across Ridgewood Avenue, north of Madison Avenue, when he stepped into the path of a Jeep driven by Timothy Draughton Sr., 29, of Daytona Beach at 9:15 p.m. Saturday, police said in a statement Sunday.
The accident report noted that "Fields is completely deaf. However, it is unknown if that contributed to this accident."
Draughton, who was driving the Jeep at or near the posted speed limit of 35 mph, and his passenger, Emily Draughton, 30, were not hurt, the report said.
Police said Fields was being treated for serious injuries at Halifax Medical Center. No one was cited, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
