Javno - Bestseller
It's opera but not as many people know it. The stars of this performance of 'The Hunt of King Charles' opera are all deaf.
They're acting out the whole show in sign language. The actors put on a convincing performance, exaggerating their facial expressions.
It's a romantic libretto about ambition, love and the emergence of Finland as a nation. The plot centres on the young King of Sweden who is also ruler of Finland. King Charles is on a hunting trip to the Aland islands when members of his entourage plot to depose him.
The original opera is in three acts, but the sign language version has been condensed into a one hour, one act performance.
After the production closes in Aland it moves to Helsinki where the opera first premiered in 1852.
But it's not over until the lady in the black wig signs.
