This is perfect example, a microcosm, of what's wrong with our govt today illustrated by any lack of common sense over....4 cents. Yes, 4 cents. Two dark-suited IRS agents showed up on the doorsteps of this carwash place and handed the owner a letter demanding that the IRS be owed to them a deliquent tax of...4 cents.

"They were deadly serious, very aggressive, very condescending,"

Imagine, two dark suited IRS agents suddenly on your doorsteps with deadly serious looks on their faces that you pay a back tax owed with a grand total of ....4 cents. A perfect microcosm of our current govt's lack of common sense and wasteful use of your tax dollars just to go after a guy who owed the IRS...... 4 cents. The IRS spent many thousand times more just to travel, investigate and go after this guy for not paying a tax of....4 cents.

Bob Shallit: IRS visits Sacramento carwash in pursuit of 4 cents - Sacramento Business, Housing Market News | Sacramento Bee

Congratulations, Obama. You just collected your.... 4 cents.

But did he do it in this case? We all know he has the power to. The question is, "Did he?"

Of course you don't have the answer to that question. You simply jump to conclusions as always.

Looks like the spin doctors all show up after midnight. Guess they figure not many around to keep them honest. Wrong again.

IRS has been existing for MANY MANY MANY years.

4 cents? :laugh2: I don't think so at all. IRS only rounds off to the nearest dollar, not cents.

Apparently Obama can order the IRS to do something about collecting unpaid or late taxes.
Obama orders crackdown on tax-delinquent contractors - FederalTimes.com

It just got tougher for tax delinquents to receive government contracts.

President Obama on Wednesday ordered the IRS to verify whether prospective contractors are up to date in paying their taxes. Companies seeking to do business with the government have long had to certify they are not delinquent in their taxes — now IRS must verify if those certifications are truthful and report its findings in 90 days.

Obama said he plans to ask Congress for authority to collect delinquent taxes from companies that already have federal contracts. Agencies would divert contractors' payments to the IRS until debts are repaid and only then would contractors receive full payments. The proposal was part of the 2010 budget, but was not adopted. The 2011 budget goes to Congress on Feb. 1.

Tens of thousands of deadbeat contractors owe the government more than $5 billion, Obama said before signing the memo. The government should not pay these companies any money until their taxes are paid because unpaid taxes cheat citizens out of improvements to education, health care and energy, he said.

The $5 billion "would be enough to cover the cost of annual college tuition for more than half a million students," Obama said. "If we were to invest in health care, it would be enough to cover 2.5 million children."

Obama ordered the Treasury Department and the Office of Management and Budget to work with other federal agencies to evaluate suspension and debarment policies, and report back in 90 days on ways to improve the process to ensure deadbeat firms aren't given new contracts. The report must include a plan to make company tax certifications available in a governmentwide database.

"Too often, federal contracting officials do not have the most basic information they need to make informed judgments about whether a company trying to win a federal contract is delinquent in paying its taxes," Obama wrote in the memo. "We need to give our contracting officials the tools they need to protect taxpayer dollars."

GOOD!!! good to see Obama intending to hold those greedy scumbags accountable. I wouldn't be surprised if most of these contractors came from Bush Administration.

but my question for you is - "was IRS under Obama's order to collect 4 cents?" I didn't ask if Obama can order IRS or not.

At least, they will get revenues to get MORE skilled workforce on the job. The problem is that we have lack of skilled job seekers out there. We need more education to help fill them out in that sector, I think.

IRS is under the Obama administration and they do have orders to clamp down deliquent taxes owed to them (it's bad enough for them to think it's money owed to govt rather than it's money owed to tax payers who did their duty in paying their share of taxes). And under orders to hire more IRS workers as well. It's bad enough to send two IRS agents on a fools errand and a wasteful trip born by, ironically so, the cost of American tax payers, just to collect.... 4 cents. A poor and inefficient use of govt resources and taxpayers' money just to collect... 4 cents. A microcosm of what's going on today with our wasteful govt.

Unless that 4 cents is someone's refund, it isn't money owed to taxpayers. It is money owed to the Internal Revenue Service on behalf of the Federal Government.

And exactly how patriotic do you consider people who refuse to pay their taxes?

I understand if it ultimately cost taxpayers, say, $1000, just to track down a deliquent tax payer in order to get back, say, $5,000, $10,000 or even $50,000 owed to the IRS, then that's a good return in money collected. However, to waste $1,000 (for example) of taxpayers' money just to collect.... 4 cents, is not only irresponsible but a sign lacking any common sense the ridiculousness in doing that. They need to learn to target those in the most efficient manner to get money owed to the IRS.

Careful, you're reaching so far you're gonna pull a muscle, dude.

So, collecting.... 4 cents.... by two IRS agents a good thing then? A good return on money invested to recover what's owed to the agency? I'm curious on what you think about this IRS attempt to recover 4 cents.

IRS's only and sole policy is to collect the tax - regardless of Administration. but yes or no will suffice. Were those 2 IRS agents or their department or their field office or whatsoever was under order by Obama Administration to collect 4 cents?

I think it's ridiculous, but I also think it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with Obama. You think Obama has nothing better to do than order some dipshit IRS agents to go collect 4 cents from mom and pop? c'mon man. That's why I said you're reaching: trying to connect Obama to that.

Reminds me of the king's assistants knocked on doors to collect taxes from poor people in the village.

Is it true that many average Americans don't understand about how tax system works and join Tea Party to against against government spending and existing tax system?

I know that many conservatives, especially Tea Party members want FairTax Act.
