I am curious how the Internet becoming available has impacted the Deaf community and culture? I would like to get lots of opinons on this.
 
I am interested in becoming an interpreter for ASL- I have taken three years of ASL in high school, and actually interpreted a couple classes for a deaf student at the university I am attending. For one of the courses I am taking right now, I am writing a paper regarding how the Internet has had an impact on the deaf community and culture.

Instant messaging, web cams, and online blogs and chat rooms have opened a lot of doors and enabled for quick, efficient communication between deaf individuals as well as deaf and hard of hearing individuals. I wanted to get the opinions of people in the deaf and hard of hearing communities to learn their opinion.
 
Before what we have today, we only use the TTY which has the keyboard and a bar screen with texts in it. We also use the letter, but today we no longer use them that much as we was used to.
 
e-mail has been a wonderful innovation for the deaf and deafblind. so has the internet. e-mail allows deaf and deafblind persons to communicate with anyone around the world without the inability to see or hear being an issue. the internet has also opened up many opportunities especially for the deafblind since it allows them to be aware of current events without having a sighted-hearing friend, family member or terp sign to them. a deafblind person also doesn't need to rely on weekly braille news magazines to keep track of world events since they can read almost any publication on the internet.
