Hi there - I’m currently in an American Sign Language interpreter program – my mid-term project is to find out how much Deaf consumers know about the activities of interpreters. Therefore, I turn to you gentle reader.
My ASL skills just aren't good enough to do this face to face. To be honest, I'm pretty nervous signing. I'd love to hear what everybody thinks.
Someday I hope to be a nurse and an interpreter both, and the more I figure out the better.
1. In your opinion, what are the normal requirements to enter into the interpreting profession? (Please include any state or federal requirements that you are aware of in your answer.)
4. In your experience, what is the salary range for interpreters? And what is the basis for raises/increases in starting pay in the field of interpreting?
5. What advice would you give someone entering the field of interpreting?
7. What was the most recent video, DVD, or book you watched/read relating to the ASL?
